Earn Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) certification
2–4 weeksThe Scrum Alliance CSM is the most recognised entry credential. It requires a 2-day course plus exam. Professional Scrum Master (PSM I) from Scrum.org is cheaper and more knowledge-based — equally respected.
Practice facilitating Agile ceremonies
1–3 monthsVolunteer to facilitate retrospectives, planning sessions, or daily stand-ups on your current team. Scrum Masters are judged on facilitation skills — run real meetings to develop this muscle.
Learn coaching and servant leadership
1–2 monthsScrum Masters remove impediments, not control work. Study conflict resolution, systems thinking, and Team Kanban. ICP-ATF (facilitation) and ICP-ACC (coaching) certifications expand your toolkit beyond CSM.
Apply within your current company first
2–4 monthsThe most successful Scrum Master transitions happen internally — you already know the domain, the people, and the product. Propose a Scrum transformation project and offer to lead it as a pilot.
